Travel Apps
Check out five helpful travel apps recommended by Passports staff to download prior to your tour!
This easy-to-use app allows you to stay in touch with home over a Wifi connection rather than using an expensive international phone plan. You and your family can download the app and stay in touch via messaging and video calls. It’s important to stay in touch -- just remember to stay present in the moment during your tour and not spend too much time focusing on home.
Google Translate
There are many translation apps available, but perhaps the simplest (and completely free) app is Google Translate. You can download the language(s) of your travel destinations in advance so that you can still use the basic translation features even while offline and not near a Wifi spot.
Postagram
Postcards are a classic travel must-do, but Postagram allows you to send actual postcards with your own pictures from Instagram and no need to spend time searching for stamps and a post office while on tour.
Polarsteps
Don’t want to carry around a physical journal on your tour? Polarsteps is a destination map, journal, and photo collection. A great “all in one” option to document your trip of a lifetime. Polarsteps will track your location (even while you’re offline) and create a map of your tour, and you can add photos and journal notes at different locations. Your family and friends (who want to live vicariously through you) will be able to follow along and see updates about your trip, and you can share on social media too. And at the end, you can order a physical book of your trip with all your photos and journal notes.
Timeshifter
Want to make the most of your tour and not feel the dreaded jet lag? Timeshifter allows you to input your flight and itinerary information and makes a personalized plan to avoid jet lag with specific suggestions based on the details of your trip. Making a plan to deal with jet lag ensures you can be focused and present throughout your tour and make the most of every moment.
